Who can apply?

The Non-Lucrative Visa is intended for people from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who want to make Spain their main home without working or carrying out business activity.

Applications can include a spouse or partner and dependent children, provided the required relationship, financial and healthcare evidence is supplied.

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial resources, suitable healthcare cover, a clean criminal record and the required medical certification.

Financial evidence

Financial requirements and evidence

The principal applicant must demonstrate financial resources equivalent to at least 400% of the IPREM, with an additional 100% for each accompanying family member.

Evidence may include savings, pensions, investments, rental income or other reliable sources. The money must be available to the applicant and sufficient to support the family without working in Spain.

Bank statements and certificates must clearly identify the account holder, financial institution, relevant dates and balances. Requirements can differ between consulates, so we check the correct route before confirming exactly what you need or arranging translations.

Healthcare

Applicants must have healthcare cover that meets the requirements for a Non-Lucrative Visa. This will usually be a Spanish private health insurance policy offering comprehensive cover without co-payments or waiting periods.

We work with an experienced insurance broker who can help arrange a suitable policy and provide the correct supporting documents for the application.

If you are entitled to an S1, we also offer a separate paid service to register it in Spain. We manage the registration, follow up the application and continue supporting you through to obtaining your Spanish health card.

Police and medical documents

Adult applicants require an ACRO police certificate and applicants must also provide a certificate of good health in the correct format.

Our full NLV service includes handling the UK ACRO application and providing the medical certificate of good health. We also arrange the apostilles and sworn Spanish translations for both documents.

Children under 18 do not need an ACRO police certificate. Where children are included in the application, we provide their birth certificates together with the required apostilles and sworn Spanish translations.

These documents have limited validity, so we tell you when they should be obtained to ensure they remain valid for your consulate appointment.

We discuss the financial requirement for your household and explain how the evidence should be presented. As we move through the application, we also identify any additional documents needed for your particular circumstances and consulate.

In most cases, a P45 or similar evidence showing that employment has ended will be required. Where this is not available, other supporting documents may be accepted and we will advise you on the most appropriate evidence.
